ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Facebook made a splash in Los Lunas with a data center. Now, the social media giant is launching a program in Albuquerque- based on training students.
Facebook says it’s creating a first-of-its-kind certificate program with Central New Mexico Community College. The first class will be offered in the fall of 2018, with the full degree program in place by the spring semester.
CNM’s coding and digital marketing classes teach skills New Mexico employers need. More and more often, that means social media.
“The Facebook blueprint curriculum is out there that we can infuse into our curriculum, along with other digital media platforms,” said Donna Diller, Dean of the School of Business and Information Technology.
Along with helping to shape curriculum for the Digital Media Marketing certificate, Facebook will offer 32 scholarships for CNM’s five-year-old Deep Dive Coding Program.
“The Facebook scholarships give us an opportunity to create another track that’s very similar to our full stack track where you put up sophisticated pages,” said CNM Ingenuity, Inc Executive Director Kyle Lee.
CNM will build on current curriculum. They’ll add in Facebook techniques and other social media marketing tools and will base lessons on talks with local employers about the skills they want new employees to have.
“We’re at a point where we really need to dig a bit deeper and make sure we’re providing adequate skills that can support business growth in the community,” Diller said.
