Facebook has announced a plan to train 1 million people across the U.S. by 2020 by ensuring business owners have the skills they need to grow their business and that job seekers have the tools they need to find good jobs.
To support these efforts locally, Facebook is partnering with CNM and CNM Ingenuity to develop a new non-credit Digital Marketing Certificate program, which will include courses in digital marketing and social media strategy.
To demonstrate their commitment, Facebook is offering scholarships to participate as well as Ad Credits to advertise your business or organization on their global platform at no cost to you!
This exciting, fast paced program is perfect for small business owners, marketing professionals in need of digital skills, and those seeking new workforce development/job skills.
Six courses will be offered in a four-week, online format, with one week break in between each course. Additionally, we will have a face-to-face class to kick off each course, and another face-to-face class at the end of each course for final presentations.

Katy Woodward – CNM Ingenuity Marketing Manager – Katy oversees marketing and outreach initiatives for CNM Ingenuity, a non-profit created by Central New Mexico Community College to pursue cooperative ventures in economic development and entrepreneurial support. In this role, Katy creates and implements marketing strategies for various initiatives including the Deep Dive Coding Bootcamps, FUSE Makerspace, and more. She’s worked at CNM for 10 years in Marketing, Public Relations, and Outreach. She holds a Bachelor’s in Communication from UNM, and an Executive MBA from UNM’s Anderson School of Management.
Alexis Kerschner Tappan – AKT Communications – With a degree in journalism and mass communications, a masters degree in organizational learning, and more than 18 years of marketing communications experience, Alexis Kerschner Tappan crafts compelling messaging for a variety of non-profit, for-profit and institutional clients. As President of AKT Communications, Alexis’ love for marketing communications lies in helping others tell their stories. Her prior roles include serving as the VP of Public Relations at Rick Johnson & Company Advertising, where she worked with a variety of statewide clients, and as Director of Marketing and Special Assistant to the President at Central New Mexico Community College.
Laura Hines – CNM Marketing Faculty – Laura Hines is a part-time instructor at Central New Mexico Community College in the School of Business & Information Technology (BIT). Laura holds a masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico where she found a passion for teaching within higher education. Laura’s professional experience includes business marketing, development and fundraising, and non-profit management.
Mark Gilboard – WESST Business Trainer/Consultant – Mark Gilboard – Mark teaches numerous training courses at WESST, including Marketing Essentials, and Social Marketing with Facebook and Instagram. Prior to his current role helping local Albuquerque small- and medium-sized businesses, Mark had 16+ years’ experience as a sales & marketing and advertising research professional with Nielsen Media Research (Nielsen TV Ratings) and Clear Channel Outdoor. He has taught numerous college courses in Media, and Communications through the years, at both CNM and UNM. He has a Master’s Degree in Communication from UNM and Bachelor’s Degrees in both Rhetoric and Spanish from Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS
The following steps outline the scholarship application process. Steps 1 and 2 must be completed in full by the scholarship application deadline.
1.) Fill out the application. Be sure to use a valid email address as we will use it to contact you. Due to the volume of interest in these scholarships, we will not be responding to calls or walk-ins, but you may contact us through our website if you have questions. All interested applicants must fill out our online application, and wait for email communication from our staff.
2.) Upload a video of yourself. Send this in a private message to CNM Ingenuity’s Facebook Messenger. You must be logged into Facebook Messenger to send the message. Limit the video to two minutes, and please address the following:

- What portion of this course sounds most appealing to you? What would the ultimate outcome look like for you?
- Why should we choose you for this opportunity?
3.) Scholarship Selection. Scholarships will be awarded in time for students to begin mandatory course pre-work. Scholarship recipients will be notified at the time of selection.
